Top 12 Not So Scary Halloween Movies

Top 12 Halloween Movies to watch if you HATE Scary Movies

Halloween is a magical time, full of candy and parties, ghosts and goblins, and of course, lots of fun. One of the best parts of Halloween though, is curling up on the couch with your snacks and a hot chocolate (or apple cider) and watching a good old fashion Halloween movie. However, the trick is these flicks are not always a treat 😉 if you are like me and absolutely hate scary movies, here is a list of the best Halloween movies to watch, and their trailers, so you don’t have to miss out on this awesome part of the fall season.

Halloweentown

Okay, I think it’s only right to start with a classic. Halloweentown is the 1998 Disney Masterpiece about a girl who discovers she is a witch and has to help save a town full of goblin, ghouls, and other witches. Starring the wonderful Debbie Reynolds, it’s a Halloween must watch.

Hocus Pocus

Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy, this 1993 film is just the right level of spooky. Full of spells, tricks, and humour, 3 witches back from the dead terrorize the city looking for children, and it’s up to 3 kids to stop them.

Twitches

Some of the coolest Disney stars of 2005, Tia and Tamera Mowry, star in this film about 2 twins separated at birth, who find out they have mystic powers and are brought together again to save their birth country. Sassy and sweet, Twitches is a great film for a fall night.

Haunted Mansion

Featuring the hilarious Eddie Murphy, this film is all about a realtor’s family who ends up in a giant haunted mansion. Now they have to escape, through a bunch of creepy characters and hilarious events, you can uncover the secrets behind this haunted home.

Monster House

Continuing the theme of scary homes, this animated comedy is about, not a haunted house, but a living one. 3 youths learn the house down the street is actually a living, breathing, monster. This work of Spielberg magic is as funny as it is creepy.

Practical Magic

This movie is what happens when Halloween and Rom Coms Mix. Starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, as well as many others, this is a great film to watch with some popcorn and your girls. The two funny and beautiful witch sisters just can’t seem to keep a man….alive. Both dramatic, spooky, and fun, this is a must watch.

Hotel Transylvania

Probably one of the greatest Adam Sandler films of all time, this animated film brings together Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, and David Spade. When Jonathan (Andy Samberg), a mere mortal, shows up at their hotel full of monsters, the cast of hilarious creatures must keep him away from Count Dracula’s daughter. This movie is sure to get a laugh out of everyone.

The Addams Family

Everyone’s favourite spooky family should be on all Halloween movie lists. This film features the ever spooky, always funny, Addams family, who’s quirky relatives and “different” way of living bring amusement to all who watch. (P.s Wednesday Addams makes for an easy and cheap Halloween costume)

It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown is always a classic must watch. The little cartoon gang will warm your heart on cold October nights, and it’s only 25 minutes long, perfect for a quick Halloween fix

The Nightmare Before Christmas

This animated Tim Burton film is a topic of debate, between a Christmas movie and a Halloween movie, but that just means we get to watch it twice a year! Jack the skeleton lives in a land solely dedicated to Halloween, with lots of creepy creatures, when he discovers Christmas town. This little musical will have you singing along in no time.

Young Frankenstein

In my opinion, this is one of Gene Wilder’s best films. A parody of the famous Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, a goofball scientist learns how to put life into the dead….comically.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

There is no Halloween without the Time warp, that’s just a fact. Let the talented Tim Curry take you away to another world, along with a young Susan Sarandon and Billy Bostwick (As Brad and Janet). This wacky, freaky, alien filled house will have everyone singing along in seconds.

If I missed any, leave your suggestions in the comments!!

Love always,

Nic
