Christmas movie watch list!

I love Christmas movies. Love, love, love them! I make a huge list every year and always know approximately what order I plan to watch them in and who I need to watch specific ones with. This is my list of the best Christmas movies, broken up into categories for you.

If you want something family friendly

The Grinch (2001 version)
The one with Jim Carry and Taylor Momsen, (pre-Gossip Girl and The Pretty Reckless.) It’s hilarious for the whole family, and is probably one of my most quoted movies.

Home Alone (1 and 2)
Both 1 and 2 are fantastic, Hilarious, adorable, and so much fun.

Everyone knows and loves Elf, after all, Smiling’s his favourite! And who doesn’t love to smile?

The Santa Clause (1, 2, and 3 – but 1 and 3 are better)
The Santa Clause 1 was filmed in my home town of Oakville so it has a special place in my heart, but these Tim Allen flicks are always fun and good for a laugh.

A Christmas story
A classic. Turn on your leg lamp and pull your tongue off the pole for this one!

Christmas with the Kranks
Tim Allen again! This time alongside one of my faves, Jamie Lee Curtis. It’s funny, different, and great for everyone.

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
Wacky, silly, and wild – National Lampoon is always a good time.

If you want a true classic

It’s a Wonderful life
“Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings.” how could you not love a feel good classic with a quote like that?!

White Christmas
Bing Crosby stars in this classic film that gave us one of the most famous Christmas songs of all time!

Miracle on 34th street
A classic and heartwarming story about a little girl and Santa Claus.

Meet me in St.Louis
Judy Garland, great songs, and pretty 1800’s dresses, what a great little Christmas film.

More adult friendly fun

A fun take on the original Christmas Carol film, Bill Murray absolutely kills it in this 1980’s flick.

The Night Before
A wild and hilarious night of parties, drugs, and Christmas cheer with Joseph Gordon Levitt, Seth Rogen, and xx – what’s not to love?

Office Christmas party
Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman star in this hilarious Christmas film about…you guessed it, an office Christmas party that gets way way out of control!

Fred Clause
Vince Vaughn plays Santa’s jealous, spiteful brother in this different and entertaining flick.

A Harold and Kumar Christmas
You know anything Harold and Kumar is better watched when the kids are asleep. It’s wildly inappropriate and such a good time.

If you want something animated

Rudolph the rednosed reindeer
An oldie but a goodie, this little Claymation film brings so much Christmas joy.

A Christmas Carol
Another Jim Carry one, but this time animated. This can be a little spooky for really young kids, but it’s a great version of the classic story

A Charlie Brown Christmas
This short cartoon has clearly made its mark on Christmas, after all, they sell “Charlie Brown Christmas trees” in direct reference to this 30 minute classic.

Santa Claus is coming to town
Another Claymation favourite for me.  It tells the story of young St. Nick as he travels around trying to spread Christmas joy.

The Polar Express
A beautiful, incredibly made animated musical film. It will put a smile on every face in the room, and you may even shed a tear or two

Frosty the Snowman
With a corn cob pipe and a button nose and 2 eyes were made of coal! We love frosty.

Romantic and fun

4 Christmases
Reese Witherspoon with Vince Vaughn, spending their Christmas visiting each of their families. It’s hilarious and funny, the perfect rom com Christmas flick.

Love Actually
I love this movie so much that I quoted it in my speech at my parents wedding. An amazing British ensemble cast, multiple intertwining storylines… you can’t watch this movie and not feel wonderful afterwards.

The Holiday
Jude Law is in this… need I say more? When Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet’s character’s switch homes and lives for the Holiday season, they both find love, and themselves, over Christmas.

While you were sleeping
Young Sandra Bullock!!! Throwing it back to the 80’s, Bullock’s character pretends she is engaged to a man in a coma and truly becomes a part of their family over the Christmas season. It’s not nearly as creepy as it sounded just there, but it is adorable.

These are the Christmas movies I plan to watch this season, and since there are 24 listed here you can watch one every day from December 1 – Christmas eve! I know there are tons more out there, did I miss your favourite on this list? Let us know in the comments!

Love always,
